Job Summary

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is seeking motivated, proactive, and safety-minded team members to join their Corporate & Commercial directorate as Casual Lifeguards. Reporting directly to the Senior Officer Aquatics, successful candidates will assume broad supervisory responsibility over the center's pool, spa, and sauna zones. This public-facing role focuses intensely on executing rigorous water scanning, administering first aid interventions, conducting preventative rescues, and maintaining pristine visual and hygienic presentation across all internal and external aquatic grounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor the pool, spa, and sauna facilities in a diligent, mature, and proactive manner to maintain rigorous public safety limits.
  • Execute rapid scanning techniques to detect swimmers in distress, administer immediate First Aid, perform water rescues, and launch site-wide emergency actions when required.
  • Manage lane allocations, configure specialized aquatic spacing components, and maintain all safety or swimming equipment to an exceptional standard.
  • Maintain immaculate visual hygiene and safety, executing scheduled cleaning duties across the pool deck, storerooms, first aid room, and guest change blocks.
  • Deliver superior customer service and conflict resolution, addressing patron concerns immediately to satisfy the criteria of the City’s Customer Service Charter.
  • Adhere rigidly to daily operational KPIs, including arriving 5 minutes prior to rostered shift blocks and performing continuous active deck cleaning routines.
  • Collaborate cleanly with senior aquatics staff and team colleagues to continuously refine risk management plans and safe facility practices.

Skills & Requirements

  • Must hold a valid, current Royal Life Saving Society of Australia (RLSSA) Pool Lifeguard Award (or approved domestic equivalent) backed by industry-relevant supervision exposure.
  • Must possess a valid, current First Aid Certificate (including current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR data).
  • Possess a valid, current Western Australian Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Must hold or show immediate capacity to obtain a current, satisfactory National Police Clearance certificate.
  • Possess a valid, Western Australian “C” Class driver’s license.
  • Highly developed interpersonal verbal communication skills, with proven capability in customer negotiation and positive conflict management on deck.
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal duty of care principles and Occupational Health and Safety (WHS) codes within a high-capacity leisure center setup.
