Job Summary

Western Downs Regional Council is seeking a collaborative, highly capable, and safety-minded supervisor to join the Works section within the Infrastructure Services directorate as a Ganger. Based out of the Tara regional depot, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day onsite coordination, task allocation, and supervision of labor teams, civil plant machinery, and building materials. Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Works Supervisor in advanced planning, scheduling, and executing daily municipal road construction, asset maintenance, and works programs.
• Supervise field crews directly on-site, effectively delegating tasks, managing workflows, and setting a high example of professionalism and team alignment.
• Provide high-level operation of Council plant machinery and execute practical manual labor services on-site alongside the crew as needed.
• Interpret complex engineering blueprints, technical project plans, grade layouts, and job specifications to perform calculations for levels and grades.
• Train, mentor, and develop field staff and apprentices within the crew, identifying individual abilities to build a cohesive, highly productive team.
• Monitor site operations rigidly to ensure work complies with environmental policies, council guidelines, and quality standards while remaining within budget targets.
• Drive a rigorous Safety-First culture, ensuring absolute compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws, inspecting sites for hazards, and reporting unsafe practices immediately.
• Maintain clear, effective communication and professional relationships with team colleagues, internal council sections, and members of the public.

Skills & Requirements

• Sound, demonstrated field experience in the construction, renewal, and maintenance of civil engineering assets and regional road networks.
• Proven technical knowledge relating to road works, with a demonstrated ability to interpret engineering documentation and map out field project stages.
• Strong leadership capabilities, with experience directing a multi-disciplinary field team, prioritizing tasks under pressure, and giving unambiguous directions.
