About This Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for a Coding Auditor/Educator to join the Clinical Coding Service team at the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN), based at Flinders Medical Centre. This ongoing full-time position plays a vital role in ensuring accurate clinical coding, supporting Casemix and Activity Based Funding (ABF) revenue optimisation, and improving coding quality across the health network.

The successful applicant will conduct clinical coding audits, identify education requirements, support coding accuracy improvements, and contribute to the development of coding staff through training and mentoring. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular random and targeted clinical coding audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Identify opportunities to improve coding quality and maximise legitimate Casemix and Activity Based Funding (ABF) outcomes.
• Develop and participate in the design of clinical coding and documentation audit tools.
• Establish coding accuracy benchmarks and monitor performance against predetermined criteria.
• Analyse financial impacts resulting from coding changes and improvements.
• Ensure the Coding Service meets relevant accreditation requirements from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.
• Identify education and training requirements for coding staff.
• Provide training, mentoring, and support to trainee and existing coding team members.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Clinical Coding Service.

Skills & Requirements

• Clinical Coding Qualification: Successful completion of a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding course in ICD-10-AM or equivalent qualification.
• Coding Experience: Demonstrated advanced competency and complex clinical coding experience using ICD-10-AM current edition.
• Audit Experience: Proven experience conducting audits of clinical coded data and reviewing coding accuracy.
• Training Capability: Ability to identify education needs and support training and mentoring activities.
• Technical Skills: Strong computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and email systems.
• Organisational Skills: High-level time management, prioritisation, and organisational abilities.
• Quality Improvement: Understanding of healthcare accreditation requirements and continuous improvement principles.
