About This Opportunity

WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking Vaccinators to support the public health response to a diphtheria outbreak across regional Western Australia.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, vaccinators will collaborate with local health services, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and community stakeholders to improve access to vaccination and help protect communities at increased risk of diphtheria. Vaccinators will undertake pre-vaccination assessments, obtain informed consent, provide post-vaccination advice, accurately document vaccinations, maintain vaccine cold chain requirements and support vaccination clinics across a range of rural and remote settings.

This role provides an opportunity to contribute to a significant public health response while working collaboratively with local teams and community partners to support improved health outcomes across regional Western Australia.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely administer diphtheria-containing vaccines in accordance with approved immunisation guidelines and clinical protocols.
• Conduct appropriate pre-vaccination assessments.
• Obtain informed consent before vaccination.
• Provide appropriate post-vaccination information and advice.
• Accurately document vaccinations and maintain relevant clinical records.
• Maintain vaccine cold chain requirements.
• Support vaccination clinics across rural, remote and community-based settings.
• Use relevant immunisation and health information systems to record and manage vaccination information.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and community organisations.
• Support culturally safe and respectful healthcare practices when working with regional and Aboriginal communities.
• Undertake required regional and remote travel.

Essential Requirements

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse or Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Current evidence of annual completion of mandatory WA Health online education modules for immunisation providers, including Immunisation Update and Cold Chain Management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Australian Immunisation Handbook, including vaccine-preventable disease chapters relating to diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus.
• Current competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
• Current competency in the recognition and management of anaphylaxis.
• Competence and confidence using relevant information systems, such as the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), Community Health Information System (CHIS), VaccinateWA or similar systems.
• Willingness and ability to complete required cultural capability or cultural safety training.
• Willingness and flexibility to undertake required travel, including travel to small communities by 4WD or small aircraft.
• Ability to adapt to accommodation arrangements where options may be limited in some communities and towns.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working and/or living in rural or remote settings.
• Experience working collaboratively with Aboriginal communities.
• Understanding of culturally safe and respectful healthcare practices.

Salary & Employment Benefits

• RN Level 1: $82,945 – $106,630 per annum pro rata.
• AHP Level 1: $1,461.76 – $1,594.01 per week.
• EN Level 1–4: $1,461.76 – $1,541.11 per week.
• Casual hourly rates may apply according to the relevant award.
• Classification and increment will be determined according to the successful applicant's skills, knowledge and experience.
