SA Pathology is seeking motivated Technical Officers to join its Cytopathology and Anatomical Pathology Talent Pool. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your laboratory career within one of Australia's leading public pathology providers while supporting specialist diagnostic services across multiple metropolitan hospital laboratories.
As a Technical Officer (TGO1), you will assist with specimen preparation, embedding, sectioning, staining, cytological techniques, frozen section procedures and laboratory operations that support accurate pathological diagnosis. You will also contribute to equipment maintenance, quality assurance, accreditation activities and efficient specimen management while working alongside experienced laboratory scientists and pathology professionals.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare, process and manage histopathology and cytopathology specimens.
Perform specimen embedding, microtomy, sectioning and staining procedures.
Assist with frozen section, immunohistochemistry and cytological laboratory techniques.
Operate, calibrate and maintain specialised laboratory equipment.
Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and specimen records.
Support laboratory quality assurance, ISO and NATA accreditation activities.
Assist with specimen tracking, workflow coordination and courier duties.
Maintain laboratory safety, infection control and quality standards.
Support technical projects and continuous laboratory improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with pathologists, scientists and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Assist with training and supporting new laboratory staff where required.
Essential Requirements
Diploma, Advanced Diploma or equivalent qualification in Medical Laboratory Science or a related technical discipline.
Minimum 1 year experience in histopathology, cytology, specimen processing or medical laboratory environments is preferred.
Experience with tissue processing, embedding, sectioning and staining techniques.
Sound technical knowledge of Anatomical Pathology and Cytopathology laboratory practices.
Strong manual dexterity and laboratory technical skills.
Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently with minimal supervision.
Commitment to laboratory quality systems, ISO/NATA standards and continuous improvement.
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary pathology teams.
