Job Summary

The Shire of Ashburton is actively accepting applications for its initial intake of Swimming Pool Assistants and Pool Lifeguards for the 2026/2027 season based in Paraburdoo, WA. Reporting operationally to the Swimming Pool Coordinator, successful candidates will ensure guest safety, maintain premium water hygiene standards, and deliver exceptional patron customer service. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain vigilant scanning supervision over swimming lap lanes, recreational splash pads, and facility patrons to prevent aquatic accidents.
  • Provide rapid, highly efficient water rescues, basic life support, and emergency first aid responses when required.
  • Monitor, log, and report pool water chemistry and clarity data to ensure total compliance with public health standards.
  • Enforce pool safety rules and facility guidelines firmly yet politely, promoting a welcoming and risk-aware environment for young families and youth groups.
  • Conduct regular pool cleaning duties, including vacuuming, clearing surface debris, and organizing rescue equipment storage spaces.
  • Engage positively with community visitors, checking entry admissions and providing helpful information regarding local swimming programs.
  • Participate proactively in all compulsory internal training drills, emergency response simulation exercises, and fitness components.
  • Assist senior supervisors with facility pre-start checklists and basic administrative shift processing.

Skills & Requirements

  • Must possess a valid, current Provide First Aid Certificate as a compulsory application prerequisite.
  • Strong swimming competencies and physical fitness to successfully perform simulated aquatic rescues.
