Key Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists with medication dispensing and distribution to support safe and effective patient care.
  • Prepare, package and label pharmaceutical products according to established hospital pharmacy procedures.
  • Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including receiving, storing, rotating and replenishing stock.
  • Support ordering of medicines and pharmacy consumables to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to medication distribution, inventory and pharmacy documentation.
  • Coordinate daily pharmacy workflow to ensure timely medication supply to inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, healthcare staff and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacists, allied health professionals and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Assist with training and supporting less experienced pharmacy assistants where required.
  • Maintain compliance with medication safety standards, infection control procedures and SA Health policies.
  • Contribute to quality improvement activities that enhance pharmacy services and patient outcomes.
  • Perform general pharmacy support duties while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.

Skills & Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within a hospital, community pharmacy or healthcare setting.
  • Certificate III in Community Pharmacy, Health Services Assistance, Hospital Pharmacy Support or equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Experience assisting with medication dispensing and pharmaceutical distribution.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, stock control and pharmaceutical storage procedures.
  • Strong understanding of medication safety practices and quality standards.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail when handling medications and pharmacy records.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Competent computer skills and willingness to learn pharmacy information systems.
  • Commitment to providing safe, efficient and patient-centred pharmacy services.
